AL Bangladesh Terima 2 Kapal Patroli Bekas AL Inggris

30 September 2010 -- Angkatan Laut Bangladesh menerima kapal perang jenis Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) bekas pakai AL Inggris yang telah direkondisi di A&P Tyne, Hebburn, South Tyneside.

KASAL Bangladesh Laksamana Madya Zahir Uddin Ahmed menerima kedua kapal yang diberi nama BNS Dhaleshwari (eks HMS Leeds Castle-P258) dan BNS Bijoy (eks HMS Dumbarton Castle- P265), Kamis (23/9) di A&T.

Pengerjaan perbaikan memakan waktu empat bulan, meliputi perbaikan total mesin utama kapal, gearbox, shaft dan motor serta pemasangan generator diesel baru serta krane dek, dilakukan oleh 100 orang pekerja.

Kedua kapal akan berlayar 11.000 mil ke Bangladesh sebelum dioperasikan AL Bangladesh.

  1. Nice to see that both ships are carrying on thier seagoing careers. I was the first Coxswain of Hms Leeds Castle, stood by her whilst building in Hall Russell Shipyard in Aberdeen, took her down to the falklands in 82, saw her again in the Falklands in 2002, went on board in North shields when on her final tour of UK, and was at her Decommissioning in Portsmouth, so to see her paid off was sad, but pleased she is still to carry on with another navy. I wish her Commanding Officer and crew calm seas.
