30 November 2010 -- The Singapore and Indonesian armies have successfully conducted the annual bilateral army exercise, code-named Safkar Indopura, from 21 November to 30 November 2010. Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Chan Chun Sing and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) General (GEN) George Toisutta co-officiated at the closing ceremony of the exercise at Cipatat, Bandung, this morning. This year's Exercise Safkar Indopura, the 22nd in the series, is a combined brigade field exercise.

About 300 personnel from Headquarters 3rd Singapore Infantry Brigade and 2nd Battalion Singapore Infantry Regiment joined about 400 personnel from the 13th Infantry Brigade, 303rd and 321st Infantry Battalions of TNI-AD's Strategic Reserve Command (KOSTRAD) to participate in this year's exercise. The exercise, which involved both conventional and urban operations training, enhanced the interoperability between the two armies. Both armies will be carrying out socio-civic activities following the end of the exercise.

The successful conduct of the 22nd Exercise Safkar Indopura underscores the excellent defence relations between the Singapore and Indonesian armies. Besides the bilateral exercises, both armies also engage in other professional exchanges and interactions which have enhanced the close ties and mutual understanding between them.
