SAF and PLA Conclude COOPERATION 2010

24 November 2010 -- The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and People's Liberation Army (PLA) have concluded their second joint counter-terrorism (CT) training exercise, COOPERATION 2010. Brigadier-General (BG) Ngien Hoon Ping, SAF Director of Joint Operations, and Major-General Yang Xuming, Deputy Chief of the Training and Arms Department of the PLA General Staff Headquarters, officiated at the closing ceremony this morning. The closing ceremony was held at the Murai Urban Training Facility and was observed by officials from both countries, including Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chiang Chie Foo and the PLA Deputy Chief of General Staff, General (GEN) Ma Xiaotian. Prior to the closing ceremony, Mr Chiang and GEN Ma also observed a response drill demonstration by the SAF-PLA Exercise Joint Task Force.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, BG Ngien noted that the joint training exercise had "provided a platform for both armed forces to better understand and cooperate with each other”. He added that “interactions such as this stand us in good stead to work together in the future, on efforts such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, should there be a need."

About 60 exercise troops each from the SAF and PLA took part in the nine-day training exercise, which focused on CT security operations, including responding to chemical and explosive threats, for major international events.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Deputy Chief of General Staff, General (GEN) Ma Xiaotian, who is visiting Singapore from 23 to 25 Nov 2010, called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon. During their meeting, Mr Teo welcomed the progressive defence ties and military interactions between Singapore and China.

As part of his visit, GEN Ma met with Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chiang Chie Foo and Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong. GEN Ma and Mr Chiang also visited the PLA and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) troops participating in the second SAF-PLA joint counter-terrorism (CT) training exercise, COOPERATION 2010, earlier today. During the visit, GEN Ma and Mr Chiang were briefed on the conduct of the exercise which started on 18 Nov 2010, and observed a joint response drill demonstration. They also witnessed the COOPERATION 2010 closing ceremony, which was co-officiated by the SAF Director of Joint Operations Brigadier-General Ngien Hoon Ping and the PLA Deputy Chief of the Training and Arms Department of the PLA General Staff Headquarters Major-General Yang Xuming.

GEN Ma's visit underscores the warm and growing defence relations between Singapore and China following the signing of the bilateral Agreement on Defence Exchanges and Security Cooperation in January 2008. The armed forces of both countries interact regularly through the exchange of visits, courses, seminars and port calls.

Saab Receives Order from France for Additional Anti-Tank Weapon AT4CS


24 November 2010 -- Defence and security company Saab has received an order from the French Defence Forces through Dga (Direction générale de l'armement) for additional Light Anti-Tank Weapon AT4CS. The order value is approximately MSEK150 (approximately 15 Million €).

The contracted product 84 mm light anti tank weapon AT4CS can be fired from confined spaces, which often is the requirement when fighting in built up areas. The new French contract will be delivered during three years starting end 2011.

This contract is the fourth AT4CS contract from France. In total Saab has received orders from France for AT4CS totaling more than SEK 1000 Million (100 Million €).

TNI AU Selalu Upayakan Operasi dengan Baik

24 November 2010, Soreang -- Perlu disadari produk-produk teknologi modern yang digunakan TNI AU semakin kompleks. Karena itu, dengan berorientasi pada misi dan persenjataan modern yang dimiliki TNI AU maka kemampuan dan keterampilan personel yang menangani alutsista, perlu dididik dan dilatih secara berkesinambungan.

Demikian salah satu pernyataan Komandan Lanud Sulaiman Kolonel Pnb Gutomo, S.I.P pada amanatnya yang dibacakan Kadisops Lanud Sulaiman Letkol Lek I Wayan Mahendradata yang bertindak selaku inspektur upacara pada penutupan pendidikan Sekolah Pemeliharaan Sistem Alat Navigasi Udara (Seharsis Alnavud) Angkatan ke-21 di lapangan upacara staf II Lanud Sulaiman, Rabu (24/11).

Lebih lanjut disampaikan pula bahwa satu hal yang paling mendasar bagi penampilan atau performance TNI AU adalah operasi. “Operasi merupakan salah satu tolok ukur keberhasilan dari TNI Angkatan Udara, dan menjadi kewajiban setiap personel TNI AU dimana pun, kapan pun, dan apa pun bidang tugasnya, untuk selalu berupaya agar operasi dapat terselenggara dengan baik dan aman,” kata Kadisops pada saat membacakan amanat Danlanud.

Namun dari itu semua, faktor pendidikan menjadi kunci utama. Output yang baik akan menjadi pengadaan sumber daya yang berkualitas. Untuk menyikapi hal tersebut, maka faktor disiplin secara dominan harus mampu mewarnai sikap dan perilaku para lulusan sebagai seorang teknisi yang mengemban tanggung jawab operasional dari alutsista yang ditangani. Sehingga akan menjamin suksesnya tugas-tugas yang dibebankan kepada para lulusan sebagai personel yang lahir dari lembaga pendidikan TNI Angkatan Udara.

Ditegaskan pula bahwa para lulusan harus melihat pendidikan ini sebagai jenjang peluang karir yang luas, berpedoman pada pepatah yang mengatakan “knowledge is a treasure but practise is the key to it” memang benar, bahwa ilmu pengetahuan adalah harta yang berharga tetapi mempermahir adalah kuncinya.

Di samping itu, yang perlu dipahami adalah faktor mental harus tetap menempati urutan teratas dan tetap menjadi tuntutan seorang prajurit, seiring dengan pengembangan kemampuan intelektual yang harus tetap dipicu dan dibudayakan. Mengingat kehidupan prajurit di masa mendatang akan dihadapkan dengan berbagai hal yang berciri kemajuan jaman.

Pendidikan Seharsis Alnavud Angkatan ke-21 yang diikuti 14 siswa bintara memutuskan serda Ferri Aditya Permana sebagai siswa lulusan terbaik. Setelah tujuh bulan menempuh pendidikan di Skadron pendidikan 203 Lanud Sulaiman, mereka selanjutnya akan melaksanakan Latihan Kerja atau On The Job Training (OTJ) di Depohar 20 Madiun selama tujuh bulan pula.
